St. Thomas Aquinas Spartans Sport Highlights

As spring sports are in full swing, there have been many great performances, accounting for East Coast Conference (ECC) honors and national rankings. Many teams are chasing for East Coast Championship titles, playoffs, and National titles.

Men’s and Women’s Track and Field

The Men’s and Women’s track and field teams have had continued great success after taking a trip to Miami, Florida over spring break. According to the latest USTFCCCA Division II East Region polls, the Men’s team is ranked 1st and the Women’s team is ranked 2nd in the week 3 team rankings. Both teams will be chasing for an ECC Outdoor Championship title on Saturday April 21st, 2018. The Men and Lady Spartans will conclude the outdoor track and field season the following week by competing at Penn Relays in a number of relays at the University of Pennsylvania (PA).

Women’s Lacrosse

The Lady Spartans started off with a strong performance after spring break with a 17-5 win over Caldwell (NJ). The Spartans triumphed in their Alumni Day game against District of Columbia (D.C) (20-2) but then fell to LIU Post (NY) (18-2). The Lady Spartans have one more game against ECC opponent Queens College (NY) on Saturday April 21st and conclude their season on April 27th against Stonehill College (MA).

Men’s Lacrosse

The Spartans fell short against their first ECC opponent Georgian Court (NJ) (12-11) on March 17th, 2018. The Spartans had a back to back winning streak in the next two games against Felician (NJ) (12-3) and Dominican (NY) (13-4). The Spartans have one more ECC game against Molloy College (NY) on Saturday April 21st, and conclude their season with two final games against Saint Rose (NY) and Hampton (VA).

Softball

After a 10-game trip to Florida the Lady Spartans come back to face ECC and non-ECC contenors. The Lady Spartans fell to Saint Rose (NY) (6-4 & 9-3) but had a split decision against Caldwell (NJ) as the Cougars won the first game (5-4) and the Spartans won the second (4-3). The Lady Spartans had a strong wins over Southern Connecticut (CT) (7-1 & 16-5). The rest of their season consists of ECC opponets such as NYIT (NY), Queens (NY), Molloy (NY), Bridgeport (NY) and Mercy College (NY).

Baseball

With multiple wins, and split decisions against ECC opponents, the Spartans continue toward another ECC Championship title and chase for the National Championship title. The Spartans are ranked 25th by the NCBWA and 3rd in the East Region.

Men’s Tennis

The Spartans won multiple matches across the court while in Orlando, Florida. The Spartans continued to triumph against ECC opponents, Robert Wesleyan (NY), Daemen (NY), and LIU Post (NY). The Spartans will play at the ECC Championship semifinals on Friday April 20th.

Golf

The Spartans finished 4th at their annual Spring Invitational at the Rum Point Golf Course in Berlin, Maryland. The Spartans are also ranked 4th in the East Region by the Golf Coaches Association.
