The St. Thomas Aquinas College Track and Field team competed at the Ocean Breeze Park Track and Field Athletic Complex in Staten Island on Saturday; the first collegiate track meet in the new complex.
There were many athletes with impressive marks, but Saint-Jacob Diodonet out-shined them all. The freshman started the day with a 49.33 in the open 400, placing second out 65 runners. Later, he ran a 21.93 in the 200 meter dash, placing 3rd overall out of 48. He finished the day anchoring the 4×400 meter relay team of himself, Dylan Bestler, Ricardo Reid and Frankie Schiavone; they placed ninth out of 30 teams with an overall time of 3:25.85.
Junior Winslow Dorsainvil, as expected, had a great race, running 6.79 in the 60 meter dash. That time not only won the meet but is also a new personal best for him. On the field events side, Elias Guardado jumped 42 feet, 3.25 inches in the triple jump and Tristan Holmgren got up to six feet, 2.25 inches in the high jump.
For the women, Tiana Kirkland had a good day, running 8.23 in the 60 meter and 26.96 In the 200 meter and placing 23rd and 16th respectively. Patricia Nersten ran her best time in the 1000 with a time of 3:12.67 placing 14th out of 31; and Gabby Sloezen ran her best mile at 5:26.60, also placing 14th in her event.
The Spartans are competing Thursday and Friday at Southern Connecticut University in New Haven and look to continue their success.
